Hunger Day on the Hill

Sarah O'Brien March 14, 2017 Leave a Comment

A concerned group from The Open Door and 360 Communities partnered to attend Hunger Day on the Hill, March 13.

photos, top to bottom, left to right:

1] Staff, volunteers, and clients met with Senator Dan Hall of Minnesota District 56 and Representative Sandra Masin of Minnesota House District 51A to discuss legislation seeking increases in funding for food shelves, mobile food shelves and the Good Food Access Fund. These pieces of legislation are critical to the continued support of our clients across Dakota County. Special thanks to Hunger Solutions for organizing the event.

2] Open Door Client Theresa Henry smiles as she shares her story with State Senator Dan Hall during Hunger Day on the Hill activities.  Henry shared how much the healthy food provided by The Open Door helps her family make ends meet each month.

3] Paper plates with comments from The Open Door clients and other food shelves lined the walls.

4] Executive Director Jason Viana speaks with the group before meeting with legislatures.

5] The Open Door empowered clients and volunteers to make their voices heard with State Representative Sandra Masin yesterday during Hunger Day on the Hill.  Masin listened intently to the concerns of the clients as well as the important role food shelves play in their lives.
