A fresh approach to ending local hunger through access to healthy food.
The Open Door Welcomes You!
The Open Door provides food support for low-income individuals and families across Dakota County. Through our collective programs, The Open Door distributed more than 4.5 million pounds of food in 2024.
Four programs make up The Open Door’s approach:
- A fixed-site pantry in Eagan provides appointments to clients seeking food assistance in a traditional brick-and-mortar food shelf.
- The Mobile Pantry Program brings food to 35 different locations each month across Dakota County including low-income apartment complexes, senior living facilities, churches, community centers, and schools.
- The Mobile Lunchbox Program works with school district partners to deliver meals to students in low-income neighborhoods during the summer months. In 2024, volunteers delivered 32,802 meals to 31 different neighborhoods across 6 school districts.
- The Garden to Table Program helps clients grow their own food at 8 garden locations across Dakota County. Garden to Table provides seeds, starter plants, and tools to clients.
