Fresh and healthy food is at the heart of The Open Door’s mission, and you cannot get fresher and healthier than straight from our local farms. We were awarded a two-year grant through the Minnesota Department of Agriculture to purchase produce directly from local socially disadvantaged or emerging farmers.
This summer, we purchased tomatillos, sweet corn, green beans, tomatoes, and an assortment of peppers and other vegetables from five local farms through a partnership with the Latino Economic Development Council. These funds not only give our clients access to a bounty of locally grown produce, but also help support small farmers and their families. It’s a win-win!
