We have big summer plans at The Open Door and we need you and your team!
This will be our most ambitious summer yet – with plans to make fresh, healthy food available through Pop-Up Produce stands in even more neighborhoods, feed more kids at more locations through our Mobile Lunch Box program and add more Garden to Table plots for our clients.
We need your group’s help to make summer a success! We have lots of opportunities for your work team, church, student group, or organization to make a real difference in our community.
Commit now to lending a hand this summer and help make fresh and healthy food available to the more than 6,000 neighbors we serve each month.
Pop-Up Produce
This innovative program makes farm-fresh produce available within walking distance of low-income communities in Dakota County. Anyone is welcome to attend these free “pop-up” sites, where volunteer groups help unload food, set up and restock tables for client shopping, then clean and pack up after distribution. Volunteers needed weekday afternoons; teams of 3-6 people.

The Open Door offers more than 200 adoptable garden plots, seeds, plants and tools at no cost to our clients at one of nine Garden to Table locations.

Our Mobile Lunch Box program addresses child hunger during the summer when students are not in school and able to access free and reduced meal program. The Mobile Lunch Box bus brings free healthy brown bag lunches to neighborhoods throughout Dakota County. Volunteers help serve lunch, interact with kids, distribute take-home food bags and clean up.
We are looking for volunteer groups to “adopt” a Mobile Lunch Box site for 12 weeks this summer. Volunteer teams needed midday; 12 week commitment.
